Royal Visit on Thursday 10th of November 2005

Her Majesty, Queen Silvia paid a special visit to Klemzig Primary School and Centre or Hearing Impaired, on 10 November 2005. Queen Silvia has a special interest in Deaf education and was able to observe the similarities between the sign language programs in Australia and Sweden . During her visit she was greeted with Swedish and Australian sign language by Klemzig PS students. Her Majesty met with the children from the Year 4/5 class and observed one of their bilingual lessons. Her Majesty was shown innovative classroom teaching methods that utilised visual and listening technologies, with the lesson being delivered in Auslan and English (hence the bilingual nature) by the class teachers Jan Giorgio and Lisa Shaw. Her Majesty was invited to participate in the lesson and was shown our Smartboards by Jessie Cooper-Maggs. It was a wonderful day for our whole school.
